If it ain't STIFF, It ain't worth a F***

If you haven't seen the documentary about the story of STIFF records , go to BBC i-player or it's all pretty much summed up on the independent website. Dave Robinson and Jake Riviera should be an inspiration to anyone, even if the 'business model' was a bit too close to the edge and ran into between £1.4M and £3M of debt, depending on who you talk to. Sticking 2 fingers to corporate suits and having a philosophy of doing it the 'real' way didn't work out in the long run, although 11 years is bloody good going. So how can you keep integrity, be credible, not rip off your artists and do it all profitably? If I knew, we'd be millionaires and so would the artists we work with! Primarily we "write and produce music because we love to", and that will ultimately over ride the part the brain that needs to say "we need to write and produce music that will makes us lots of money"
